The role:

Manaaki Whenua-Landcare Research’s Landscape, Policy, and Governance team is looking for an Economic Analyst Intern to join the Empirical Economics group.

The job will entail data collection, analysis, literature review, and related research in several areas, including flood impacts, biodiversity conservation, and water pollution. The analyst will be able to make direct contributions to policy-relevant outcomes and research.

This is a great opportunity to support economists in areas such as economic behaviour, natural hazard planning, natural resource valuation, and economic modelling.

This is a 4 week internship starting in January 2019 based in St Johns, Auckland.


  • Studying economics, statistics, geospacial analysis or data analytics 
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Familiarity with issues of major environmental concern to New Zealand and the Pacific
  • Experience with primary data collection, data manipulation, and/or geographic information systems (GIS)

The internship is suited to applicants with empirical data analysis skills, including experience with econometric software, applied statistics, or computer programming. Experience with GIS is also an asset, although not necessary.
